CALCULATE HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL FIT AT YOUR MEETING TABLE

November 9, 2017

Need a simple way to calculate how many people can fit at different sized meeting tables?  Here is a suggested guide:

3600W x 1200D 12-14 people
3000W x 1200D 10-12 people
2400W x 1200D 8-10 people
2100W x 1200D 6-8 people

How did we work this out? First we calculated the perimeter of the table. As a general rule, each person should have a minimum of 600mm space. A minimum of 600mm space each is necessary to have enough arm and leg room and to allow ease of movement to and from the table. Of course, in some scenarios more space is required, for a executive boardroom setting we suggest increasing the space to 800mm.

So lets break it down, If we take a 3000mm wide by 1200mm deep meeting table for instance, it has a perimeter of 8400mm, so depending on the purpose of the table, we could potentially seat up to 14 people. 3000mm x 1200mm is more commonly used as an executive boardroom table though so we would recommend between 10 or 12 seats. Another example is a 1500mm diameter table, which has a perimeter of approximately 4710mm. We would recommend a maximum of 7 people for this size table.

Choosing a more compact chair maximises each person’s space. Chairs such as the Miro S, Sax, Baz and Zed are just a few of our compact chairs which allow more space for each user. Informal meeting tables can also be paired with chairs such as Zorro, Inc, or Spyder to save even more space.

COMMERCIAL FABRICS EXPLAINED

October 25, 2017

With so many fabrics available it’s easy to get confused about the different types and their best applications so we thought we’d break it down for you. Here’s an explanation:

Polyester- Constructed from artificial fibres, Polyester is a high performance fabric that’s extremely durable and wears exceptionally well in commercial environments. It’s resistant to most chemicals, wrinkles and mildew and also rates outstandingly in abrasion tests which makes it perfect for use in high traffic areas.

Wool – Derived from animal coats, Wool is a natural fibre that breathes well and is wrinkle, mildew, fade and abrasion resistant. Wool is extremely durable and well suited to seating upholstery due to its natural ability to regulate temperature.

Leather – Sourced from cattle, leather is tough and flexible, it naturally resists punctures and tears. Its natural properties make it easy to clean as dirt and spills can be wiped away. Perfect in both hot and cold environments leather upholstery is a popular choice for boardroom and reception seating.

Bonded Leather – Bonded leather is a relatively cheaper alternative to leather as its construction is a combination of genuine leather and synthetic fibres. Bonded leather carries the same benefits as genuine leather when it comes to aesthetics, durability, ease of clean and application.

PVC  - Commonly referred to as vinyl, PVC is a synthetic material that serves an inexpensive imitation to leather. Modern forms of commercial PVC are extremely durable and perfectly suited to high traffic areas as well as areas that demand water resistance. Waterproof PVCs are often selected for hospitality and healthcare applications where superior durability is foremost.

Olefin – A synthetic material made from Polyolefin. It’s extremely durable and usable in the most hard-wearing environments. Olefin is more commonly used as screen fabric vs upholstery fabric as it lacks stretch.

When choosing your fabrics you should take into consideration factors such as Martindale rub ratings, where you will be using the fabric, what colours are best suited to your space and how environmentally friendly your choice is. Read more about how to choose the right fabric here.

How to Add Colour to Your Workspace

October 12, 2017

Colours are an excellent way to infuse personality and energy. An appealing palette has the ability to evoke emotions, promote productivity and set the mood of your environment. Here are 5 easy ways to introduce colour into your space:

Loose Furniture – Consider adding lounges, chairs or ottomans in coloured fabrics to instantly add texture and vibrance. Glassboards, fabric pinboards and Acoustic Flaps are also other great ways to brighten dull spaces.

Plants – A natural and aesthetically pleasing way to accentuate any space. Our Globe and Trak planters are always a popular choice.

Art – Whether you prefer paintings or photos, artworks are a simple way to add a splash of colour. The Krost boardroom features brilliant paintings of Bondi's coastline by Rocco Fazzari.

Workstations – Consider coloured screen fabrics for your workstations. All of our screens can be upholstered in your colour of choice so your creativity is the only limit.

Paint – Don’t underestimate the power of paint, some of the most modern offices include a paint feature. It’s all about choosing the right colour and design.

5 Office Design Tips to Boost Employee Wellbeing

July 3, 2017

It’s no secret that happier employees are more productive, so why not consider these few office design tips to help boost employee wellbeing.

1.   Encourage Movement - Provide a variety of working spaces that give staff the choice of where and how they prefer to work.  Integrating sit to stand desks, providing flexible working spaces and promoting activity based work are all great ways to achieve this. Also try and promote an active lifestyle through initiatives like competitions and company fitness activities.

2.  Breakout Spaces – Every office should have somewhere for staff to take a break. Café areas promote emotional wellbeing by creating a sense of community and belonging. Providing a balanced offering of both comfortable and practical lounges, tables and chairs is key.

3.  Collaboration Areas – Collaboration zones play an important role in boosting engagement and employee wellbeing. Consider creating in-office meeting spaces, extra movable stools, and user friendly boardrooms and meeting rooms.

4.  Private Spaces – Open offices can sometimes be very distracting to employees, consider integrating quiet zones,  phone booths and huddle spaces where staff can choose to work when they need a break from the hustle and bustle.

5.  Décor - Ensure you have the right office ambience, take into consideration elements like lighting, artwork and furniture colouring and whether your office is an appealing and warm place to work. Planter boxes are a simple way to instantly lift the mood, plants have a plethora of proven benefits including improved air quality, heightened temperature regulation and stress reduction.

PRODUCT CERTIFICATIONS: WHAT DO THEY MEAN?

June 1, 2017

When shopping for your office furniture, you might come across logos and acronyms and wonder what they actually mean.

Here's a quick guide to some of the common ones in Australia.

AFRDI: the Australian Furnishing Research & Development Institute (AFRDI) is an independent not-for-profit technical organisation that provides standards, testing, product certifications and research for buyers and sellers of furniture based on Australian and New Zealand and other well-recognised standards.

The AFRDI Certification guarantees that a product meets the criterias of strength, durability, stability, function (the product is fit for purpose including ergonomic and basic safety criteria), flammability (where appropriate), reasonable finish and workmanship.

Suppliers of AFRDI certified products enter into an agreement with the institute and agree to maintain the quality of their products, advise the institute of any changes made to the certified product, undergo random checks and submit goods for audit or investigation at least every three years.

GECA: Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) runs Australia's only independent, not-for-profit, multi-sector eco-labelling program and is the only Australian member of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN).

The certification ensures that a product meets social and environmental performance standards, was manufactured with little impact on the environment and human health.

Just like for the AFRDI certifications, GECA labelled products are submitted to regular surveillance audits.

ISO 14001:2015 is a family of standards related to environmental management that exists to help organisations minimize how their operations and processes negatively affect the environment. ISO 14001 details how our products are designed and manufactured with a viewpoint on maximising our environmental efficiencies and also gives us a framework for continual improvement.

ISO 9001:2008 is a family of quality management system standards designed to help organizations ensure that they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders while meeting statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product or program. ISO 9001 ensures our quality assurance systems are continually improved and adhered to.

With regular audits in place, ISO 14001 & ISO 9001 helps maximise our efficiency whilst also reducing our footprint on the environment.

If you are looking for certified products for your next fit-out, don't hesitate to ask us. We have a range of products that are AFRDI certified from our Benchwork and Vast workstations to our very popular Miro chairs, Future chairs, Economy chairs, our Logic monitor arms and many more (certifications are listed on each product page).
