Blending History and Modernity at Melbourne's Iconic Skipping Girl Building

August 29, 2023

Melbourne, a city where every corner has a story, and every brick holds a secret. One such tale belongs to the Skipping Girl building on 651 Victoria St, Abbotsford Victoria.

This building is not just any landmark. It is fondly known to locals as the home of the famous "Skipping Girl Vinegar" neon sign, a dazzling symbol since the 1930s. Once a beacon for a popular vinegar brand, it has since become a cultural icon, symbolising Melbourne's evolution from an industrial hub to a modern metropolis.

Today, the Skipping Girl building has turned a new chapter. The Stem Group has breathed fresh life into this architectural gem, infusing it with raw urban elements coupled with the sophisticated flair of the modern age.

The result is a space that is both timeless and contemporary, a place where old tales meet new dreams.

From the moment you step inside, you are greeted by the Casali reception counter, which gracefully bows with its radial curve. The backdrop of aged brick walls, witness to decades of Melbourne's growth, is complemented by the modern Stecca Wood panelling in a Notaio Walnut finish. Add the tactile warmth of the Soba chairs wrapped in khaki boucle wool, and you're in for a sensory treat.

Moving through the space, the Benchwork executive desk provides contemporary sophistication, accentuated by our Sonic task chair and the ever-vibrant Mali Chair in green.

The heart of the office beats at the Benchwork and Swish workstations, framed by Arc screens that offer both privacy and a glimpse into creative minds at work. Nestled amidst this, the black Globe sliding door cupboards, adorned with planters, lend a green touch.

Natural light floods the staff area, where our Merge D-end counter table and Calvin chairs beckon for a coffee break chat. One can almost hear the laughter of yesteryears blending with today's banter.

In essence, the rejuvenated Skipping Girl building is a space where history and modernity meet in perfect harmony. It is a place where creativity and innovation can thrive, and where new stories can be written.

So, next time you're in Melbourne, be sure to skip (pun intended!) inside and take a journey through time.

Insightful Night Discussing Designing for Workplace Wellness with Incredible Panellists

August 2, 2023

We recently had the privilege to host the IDEA Gold medal panel discussion on ‘Designing for Workplace Wellness’ in partnership with Australian Design Review (ADR). Our incredible panellists included Rob Backhouse, IDEA Gold medal winner and chair of Hassell, Sue Fenton, Woods Bagot senior associate and IDEA jury member, Emily Carter, 30UNDER30 alumni and PTID senior interior designer, and our very own design manager, Carly Krost.

Hosted in our West Melbourne showroom, the event gathered guests from the Architecture and Design community all interested in hearing our panellists’ experts thoughts on the topic.

Moderated by ADR’s editorial director, Emily Rayner, the discussion included various aspects of workplace design and its impact on employees' well-being. The panellists recognised that the traditional approach of simply building offices and expecting people to come to work no longer works. Instead, they emphasised the importance of incorporating elements of wellness into the workspace to foster a positive work culture.

They stressed the importance of understanding individual needs and taking a customised approach. There is no longer a one size fits all solution for workplace design. They emphasized the significance of listening and understanding the specific needs of individuals in the workspace. Designers should consider factors like accessibility, mental well-being, neurodiversity, lifestyle and sensory elements when creating office environments.

Following the talk, guests were invited to a beautiful Italian themed dinner including a pasta station served out of an impressive cheese wheel.

Krost-Panel-Discussion-054.jpg
Krost-Panel-Discussion-176.jpg

Our team then guided them around our 2600m2 showroom where they could view and feel our entire collection of products on display.

We’d like to thank our panellists for sharing their time and thoughts with us, our partner Australian Design Review for helping us put together such an incredible event, our team, and of course our wonderful guests for joining us in a fun and insightful evening.

Wellbeing at the Heart of MacKillop Family Services New Fit Out

February 26, 2023

In their recent fit out for MacKillop Family Services, Pirotta Services and Tierney Property Group have placed great importance on the wellbeing of employees and visitors.

Movement is promoted and sedentarity avoided thanks to Swish height adjustable workstations. Each workspace is paired with Arc screens, Hana task chairs and Globe mobile pedestals giving each user a functional and ergonomic work area.

At the end of the workstations, Globe Sliding Door Cupboards topped with planters provide ample storage and partition the open space into activity based areas.

The choice of pastel and natural colours compliments and softens the wooden features of the space resulting in a calming environment. Conscious of the materials used, the team selected our Inc chairs with a shell made of polypropylene and recycled wood composite in sand and light green and Elki wooden leg table in the lunch space.

The breakout area constitutes of several settings featuring our Hugo lounge and Dart coffee tables or Arlo chairs in forest green with Nest coffee tables while the various meeting rooms display Halo tables, Hana chairs in blue, Dart tables and Zed chairs.

Last but not least, families visiting the services are given a welcoming dedicated play space to wait and relax in featuring Fletcher lounges, Byte side tables and Drum coffee tables while the reception area is furnished with Hugo lounges and Mali chairs.

From the biophilic design of the space, through the careful selection of materials, planters and the wooden architectural elements of the room, to the choice of furniture, Pirotta Services have managed to create a space that answers the needs of the modern workplace to create agile spaces and connect to nature.

Our 2022 Biggest Morning Tea

July 3, 2022

Our Sydney and Melbourne team recently held their 7th annual Biggest Morning Teas to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

Delicious homemade cakes and pastries, warm tea, and lots of smiles and laughter filled the room resulting in a fun morning held for a great cause.

We also had an exciting game of tea trivia and a heads or tails game with a twist!

We made every cup count, raising over $1,000 towards cancer research, prevention and support programs.

Thanks to both teams for their fantastic effort!

As a hybrid recruitment and consultancy agency with an aim to build overachieving teams, Talent X’s fit out has created an environment to foster success and support for their team and candidates.

Natural light floods the open plan office, highlighting the signature painted brick walls and furniture pieces throughout. The interior features floor to ceiling glass walls allowing each area to flow into each other without clear or defined limits, creating fluidity within the office.

As you enter the space, our Tex lounges provide soft seating for visitors, encouraging a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Our Lennox storage units in a dual tone finish are placed facing opposite directions to divide the areas in a purposeful yet stylish way.

Collaboration and teamwork is inspired through the multiple Flip tables that fill the open area. Offering complete mobility and functionality with their castors, our Flip tables allow the Talent X team to move and create their own work areas based on different needs and requirements. Our Keywork desk with a modesty panel is also featured in this space, allowing for more focused and task driven activities.
